Can you address the City's master plan on Traffic? We have a great deal of rush hour traffic both North/South and East/West of commuters from Decatur and people going through Decatur.
Commerce was once the "ByPass" of Downtown, but it has become a choke point near the high school where it was cut down to 2 lanes from 4 and with the plans to further reduce it to 2 lanes across the northern arc, I fear that what now takes close to 20 minutes to drive from the southside to Glenlake Park will double or triple during these times.
The further compression of Howard Ave coming into the western edge of Decatur, while possibly aligning with the crazy plans that Atlanta has for this artery, may not make the most sense for traffic on the west central side. Why do we need bike lanes when there is already a path trail next to the roadway there?

I am against the Alliance development in Avondale Estates. We do not need the increase in traffic, including construction trailers. Additionally, it will contribute to our already poor air quality.
Finally, how can it be a benefit to our city if the development requires $2.3 million in additional student space.
Growth comes with a downside.

I have read the estimates on how many children would be added to the school system once apartments and condos are built and those numbers seem really low. There seems to be a disconnect between how many families are actually moving into the apartments and condos to take advantage of our amazing schools and how many the city and/or its planners are counting or estimating. When I once visited a friend (with children) at a new Decatur apartment complex, the pool and community were filled with families with school-age kids. How do we accurately account for how many children will be added to our schools (which are already overcrowded) with the addition of all of these new developments? Or how do we slow the development to prevent the overcrowding of the schools? Thank you!

I am pretty fed up with city of Decatur: I am sure all sorts of reasons will be given as to why we should think the amount of development going on is just fine - but to me & my husband, it isn't. The entire Atlanta metro area, including Decatur, is building every unoccupied square inch & there doesn't appear to be any consideration given to the influx of more cars that that means. Decatur seems to have adapted a "stick only" - no carrot - policy towards traffic. But you can't force people to walk/bike in wretched weather - I am not doing either when temps are above 80 because I would get too sweaty to patronize a business. Due to the all-pay parking downtown, I take more & more of my business OUT of Decatur to places where I can park free. (I also think this method for asking questions is pretty lily-livered - what are you so afraid of?)

I’m concerned with the short-sighted nature of the development of the city. Why are we not considering making the 30 acre children’s home lot a school campus to remedy the overcrowding and inadequate resources our school system is facing? That would in my opinion could allow for efficient pooling of resources and appropriate response to the change in school population.
In addition, the city has basically green lighted adding 400 housing units to the East lake area that falls in the city of Decatur—how has no one addressed the additional infrastructure and city resources that such a project will definitely entail?
