Tenant Personal Property Sifting/Removal Prior to Landowner Clearing

K LS inside Redding City Limits
August 9, 2018, 10:44 AM

Is there any official coordination of when and how tenants can sift through a destroyed home prior to the time the landowner contracts for debris removal? Is any permit needed for tenants to sift for personal belongings? I know there are some organizations that are helping residents with this process, but am not sure if a permit is needed.

A permit is not required to sift. We advise that there may be hazardous material in the ash and that you use precaution and proper protective clothing and equipment. As you noted, there are organizations out there that will help and know the safest way for you to search for possessions that might be saved.
