Does the following overall draft vision reflect your aspirations for Sandpoint over the next 20 years?
“The City of Sandpoint celebrates our local culture, character, and connections with our scenic surroundings, and cultivates a vibrant community for generations to come."
No
If you answered no, or you think something has been missed, please let us know below: I like what it says but it needs to say more in that statement. It says nothing about what type of “vibrant” community we want to have or to aspire to; and it needs to if it is to provide a future vision for our community. Otherwise the statement provides no direction and leaves us adrift.
Do you: Neutral
Comments (if any): Again, I agree with what is there but there needs to be a strong statement that we are a welcoming community that excepts all people no matter their, race, culture, religious beliefs, or sexual identity.
Do you: Strongly Agree
Comments (if any): Good statement.

Please identify any other essential elements that contribute to the unique character and identity of Sandpoint and should be protected and enhanced over the next twenty years. Lake waterfront, waterways, wetlands, and riparian zones should be protected from overdevelopment and degradation.

“The City of Sandpoint celebrates our local culture, character, and connections with our scenic surroundings, and cultivates a vibrant community for generations to come."
Yes
If you answered no, or you think something has been missed, please let us know below: The draft vision reflects my aspirations, however I don't see actions that are following the words put forth in the draft vision. The condominiums, i.e. 5th street, and the seasons, and proposed development at Bridge St do not celebrate our local character or represent community's wishes.
Do you: Strongly Agree
Comments (if any): It appears the city is working towards this!
Do you: Strongly Agree
Comments (if any): Is there any way to hold developers responsible for sparing the massive clearing of trees when designing their projects. I fear for the health of the community the way the lots are being denuded of carbon sequestering trees. I don't think all the decisions by the County Commissioners show concern about public access to the lake nor do I see a focus on environmental protection. What are we doing for dark skies?
Do you: Strongly Agree
Comments (if any): I do most of my town business and entertainment riding my bike or walking which I enjoy, especially on quiet mornings and evenings. I do not always feel safe doing this. Even though Sandpoint advertises as a "walking town" a lot of drivers like to ignore this. Not sure the remedy. I sure wish an on ramp to the bypass heading north had been installed by the bridge to alleviate much of the commercial traffic that still goes through town. Wouldn't it also be nice to have at least one day a week that cars are not allowed in our downtown shopping and entertainment area. A true walking town!
Do you: Strongly Agree
Comments (if any): Sandpoint's historic charm and small town feel are not evident in the monstrous 5th street condos, nor the plans for Bridge Street! I do appreciate the "arts" endeavors!

Does the following overall draft vision reflect your aspirations for Sandpoint over the next 20 years?
“The City of Sandpoint celebrates our local culture, character, and connections with our scenic surroundings, and cultivates a vibrant community for generations to come."
Yes
If you answered no, or you think something has been missed, please let us know below: It all depends on how you interpret some of these words. Does scenic include clean water? forests that are not in danger from wildfires? Architecture that doesn't look like space aliens built it? Does "vibrant" include healthcare, mental health, community feeling as in times past?
Do you: Agree
Comments (if any): I agree in general but don't think the abstract language is very helpful. I don't think that money should be the main driver of the plan.
Do you: Agree
Comments (if any): Development patterns should put natural beauty, open space, and scenic views FIRST. ALWAYS. Everything that is done should address climate change.
Do you: Agree
Comments (if any): Of course, all this is good. It depends on how it is interpreted and by whom. It should not be interpreted by monied interests or people who have not taken part in the community and made a commitment to it.
Do you: Agree
Comments (if any): It's a funny way to look at it that we can expand access to natural amentities, etc., when what we are doing is restricting them.
Please identify any other essential elements that contribute to the unique character and identity of Sandpoint and should be protected and enhanced over the next twenty years. Less political partisanship would be nice. Keeping the money interests out of the planning would help that.

If you answered no, or you think something has been missed, please let us know below: I think the vision should more than “celebrate.” In addition to “celebrate,” it should also “supports.” Also, I think it should also include “…cultural diversity, economic viability, social justice, and environmental soundness.”

If you answered no, or you think something has been missed, please let us know below: too broad, does not include diversity nor acknowledge planning with climate change in mind in everything we do. how do you define local culture? And what does a vibrant community look like?
Do you: Neutral
Comments (if any): should include inclusive leadership training and acknowledge climate change in any planning. We need professional planners
Do you: Neutral
Comments (if any): what do you mean by a desirable neighborhood? I think growth needs to be limited and stronger planning efforts made with professional planners
Do you: Disagree
Comments (if any): Sounds good, but too broad. Biking downtown is not safe. Again we need stronger, professional planners to meet the above needs; at the moment developers appear to be given more credence than community members
Do you: Disagree
Comments (if any): This is broad . Sounds good and I agree overall but not specific enough. I am not aware of any effort to promote diversity and inclusion in Sandpoint. You list age and ability in the last bullet point which isn't particularly inclusive of different kinds of people.
Please identify any other essential elements that contribute to the unique character and identity of Sandpoint and should be protected and enhanced over the next twenty years. Planning should be focused on limited growth and the needs of the community not part time residents and developers. Creating a welcoming, inclusive community and acknowledging climate change in future planning projects.
