What is the purpose of local government in your community? Your answers to the following survey questions will help define how we determine the City’s success in delivering programs that meet your expectations.
This spring, the City of Benicia is launching a new tool called Priority Based Budgeting to help align it’s resources with the "Results" that matter most to our community. Essential to this process is your opinion on how you define the results--in other words, what they mean to you. "Results" and "Result Definitions" form the very evaluation criteria by which City programs will be scored and prioritized.
Some years ago, the City established five strategic issues that describe the role of local government as a provider of services to our community. On February 27, 2018, the Cty Council confirmed the use of those same five as our Community Results in this new process; they are:
- Protecting Community Health and Safety
- Protecting and Enhancing the Environment
- Strengthening Economic and Fiscal Conditions
- Preserving and Enhancing Infrastructure
- Maintain and Enhance a High Quality of Life
A way of thinking about these results is that they answer the questions: “What is the City in the business of doing?” or “What does it take for Benicia to be a successful community?”, or "What are the Results we are trying to achieve?".
We need your help in defining what each of these five Results mean to you. For each Result, there are several definitions to consider and decide whether or not they apply. For each Result, there will be a place to submit another definition, if you believe any might be missing. The final definitions become the indicators of success the City will use to decide how well our programs are achieving the Results. The City Council will discuss this part of the process and set the final definitions at a meeting scheduled for April 24, 2018, at 6:00 p.m.
Thank you in advance for providing your input into the Priority-Based Budgeting process and helping Benicia build a better budget!
The deadline for participation is 11:59 PM on March 30, 2018.
