Share your feedback on the three proposed scenarios for the King Street / Union Street Parking Lot in Midtown!
Waterloo Region is introducing the ION light rail and adapted bus rapid transit line system (the ION) connecting Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge. It will influence the way in which the region and the city grow and change over the coming decades. To manage how development could occur around the 12 ION stops within Kitchener, the city has under taken a project called PARTS – Planning Around Rapid Transit Stations.
To build a stronger and more vibrant city, the city has identified six “station areas” where focus will be placed on development around the stations that is transit supportive and adds value to our community. These station areas are:

Some of these station areas include a grouping of multiple ION stops. Each study area includes the lands within an approximate 10 minute walk of future ION stops.

The Midtown station area will continue to be a living and working urban neighbourhood focused along a reurbanized King Street corridor. New mixed-use development here will help to deliver a range of housing, services and amenities to support the growing population while integrating with existing stable residential areas to the east and west of King Street.
Through the previous phases of this project, a number of draft objectives were developed to ensure a variety of housing options that fit with the existing neighbourhood, support existing and encourage new employment opportunities and improve park/green spaces.
The project team has developed three scenarios for King St / Union St Parking Lot showing different ways the vision could be achieved and the objectives could be met. *3D images provide visualizations of what potential development could look like for the corresponding land use map. Staff is not looking for people to choose their favourite overall scenario, rather comment on the elements they like from each that will be pulled together into a final recommended approach.
