What do we need to know about the bike route options for Strathcona?
This process is considering route options along 81 Avenue, 82 (Whyte) Avenue, 83 Avenue and 84 Avenue.
In 2009, the City adopted a Bicycle Transportation Plan that identified the bike corridor on 83 Avenue. This designation makes 83 Avenue a starting point for this discussion. It identifies where there is cycling demand, and where there are connections to important destinations. We are looking at options in addition to the 83 Avenue corridor to make sure we consider changes that may have happened in the area since this designation was made.
We need you to tell us what is happening and what is important in your neighbourhoods today to help ensure the route is located where it will have the greatest potential to provide the greatest benefit.
The maps include the route options and also include a lot of information about existing conditions along the routes. The maps highlight the destinations the routes would serve. The maps also highlight some things we've called barriers that are tricky spots like ravines or rail line crossings that may be difficult or very expensive to resolve.
Take a look at the routes and think about them in terms of the Evaluation Criteria discussed in a previous topic. What are your thoughts about the routes? Are there other routes? What do you know about what is along the route options that we need to be aware of?
