As part of its 2016 marijuana code update, the King County Council required the Department of Permitting and Environmental Review (DPER) to undertake a study of the legal marijuana industry in unincorporated King County. Though the study primarily focuses on land use and zoning, one area of study is whether residents of unincorporated King County are experiencing any impacts from existing state-licensed marijuana retailers, producers, and processors. Please take this survey to share your feedback and experience with marijuana businesses in unincorporated King County.

Tell us what you think about the Draft Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan.

King County and 37 of the 39 cities in our county (all except Seattle and Milton) have developed a Draft Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan (draft plan) that provides direction for how we will provide the services customers expect while keeping fees as low and stable as possible. This plan is now ready for public review and comment.

The draft plan addresses many topics, however, there are three big issues ahead that will affect everyone in King County. Your comments will inform policy makers whose decisions will guide how garbage and recycling are managed in our county in the future.

The three big issues are:

  • King County has a goal to recycle 70 percent of our waste stream. Currently we recycle 52 percent of our waste stream. What actions should we take to reach our 70 percent goal?
  • What are the most important services that should be provided at King County’s recycling and garbage transfer facilities, including facilities in northeast King County?
  • How should King County dispose of its garbage over the long term?

The public comment period for the draft plan and draft EIS will end on March 8, 2018. For more information about the draft plan and draft EIS, including upcoming open houses, the approval process and schedule, and to review the documents, please visit the King County Solid Waste Division’s website: www.kingcounty.gov/solid-waste-comp-plan.

Help us understand how you currently get around the SR-520 corridor so we can make the best improvements to our transit system.

Metro and Sound Transit want your input on transit service in the State Route 520 corridor. This includes routes 252, 255, 257, 268, 277, 311, ST 540, ST 541 ST 542, ST 545, ST 555, ST 556.

Most of these routes connect Eastside communities to downtown Seattle. Downtown Seattle is experiencing rapid job and population growth and many large projects are planned in the next few years that will impact the transportation network and increase travel times for these routes.

Your input will shape service concepts that we will take back out for feedback in another round of outreach later this spring.
