Mask mandate ordinance passed by Council

August 25, 2020

During the coronavirus pandemic, in 2020 the Council heard several presentations from the Utah County Health Department and public health professionals from BYU regarding preventive measures such as wearing masks and social distancing. In August 2020, the Council approved a mask ordinance for the City. It was vetoed by the Mayor, after which the Council overrode the veto and approved the mask ordinance 6:1.

Council repealed the mask requirement at their meeting on October 20, 2020, in response to COVID-19 guidelines enacted by the State of Utah. High virus transmission rates in Utah County at that time resulted in a mask requirement from the State.
