The Housing Committee of the Provo Municipal Council requests amendments to Sections 14.08.020, 14.09.020, 14.10.020, and Chapter 14.30 of the Provo City Code to allow Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) as accessory uses to owner-occupied, single-family detached dwellings in the Agricultural (A1), Residential Agricultural (RA), and One-Family Residential (R1) Zones and to refine the development standards for ADUs. In the 2021 Utah General Legislative Session, lawmakers passed a bill regarding ADUs and conditions of their permitted use in cities throughout the state. All cities in Utah must adjust their city ordinances accordingly to align with the new state law.

Because this is a citywide application, no neighborhood meeting is required. The application will be reviewed by various Provo City departments and will later be heard by the Planning Commission. Because it is a zone change, it will also need to be heard by the Provo City Council.
