This bike plan has been in development for several years, with significant community input. While it doesn't perfectly match my priorities, it is a really good plan that balances a lot of needs and will help the City of Berkeley move in positive directions towards being a safe and welcoming community for bicyclists. As someone who has lived in Berkeley for over 20 years, raised a family here, and bicycled to commute, to get kids to school, for errands, and for fun, I have seen how a person's needs change over time. This plan will encourage bicycle transportation by a wide range of our residents.
