Help us determine how the Oakley City Council should proceed with placing a measure on the November ballot that, if approved by voters, would impose a Utility Users Tax to support the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District.

Thank you for participating!

Thank you for your input. At the Tuesday, August 9th meeting the City Council decided to proceed with placing a Utility Users tax of 3.5% in support of the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District on the November 8, 2016 ballot. We’ve learned from the County Elections Office that it is Measure E and Measure G (advisory question).

The tax is a percentage on top of the utility bill charges (much like a sales tax) that would be included in your billings for electricity, gas, cable, water and sewer. Additionally, there will be a related advisory question on your ballot that asks if the utility users tax is passed, would you like it dedicated for fire and medical response services. If successful, the monies collected would nearly cover the operational costs of an additional fire station in Oakley. For those who live in the Summer Lakes subdivision already paying a fire tax/assessment, the approved Ordinance calls for the Fire District to annually reimburse them.
