What are some reasonable regulations the City Council should adopt for short-term rentals?
Over the past several years, cities experienced a growth of short-term rentals – which are rooms, dwelling units, or residential properties that are rented for short periods of time on sites like Airbnb and VRBO – in residential communities. Currently, the City of San Mateo does not have an ordinance to regulate the use of short-term rentals. The City does however require short-term rental operators to pay a hotel transient occupancy tax. City staff are drafting an ordinance for the City Council to consider and invite the community to share their opinions on issues related to short-term rentals. The input gathered by this survey will be shared with the City Council and will be considered during their deliberations later this year. Thank you for your participation!
