Housing Element Values Survey
The City has kicked off the process to update the next General Plan Housing Element. Every 8 years, California cities are required to update their Housing Element to plan for projected housing needs. Based on the current methodology for distributing projected housing needs in the Bay Area to the different jurisdictions in the region, Saratoga may need to plan for over 1,700 new housing units to be built in Saratoga between 2023 and 2031.
The first step in addressing this challenge will be an extensive community engagement process. While the updated Housing Element is not due until January 2023, starting this process early provides an opportunity for the community to fully participate in the Housing Element update process. The goal of this survey is to gain a better understanding of community values and priorities, which will be used as a foundation for future conversations about possible solutions and policy changes. These topics were discussed further at community meetings in June. If you missed the meetings, you can watch a recording of the presentation and other housing-related topics at www.saratoga.ca.us/housing
If you have a few moments, we recommend you watch the City’s video on values, priorities, and Housing Element policy options before taking the survey. You can find additional information, watch other videos about the Housing Element, and subscribe to the Housing Element Newsletter on the City’s website at www.saratoga.ca.us/housing
