For this section: Are we on the right track?
No

Share any feedback you have on the Natural Environments Section.
There is way too much emphasis on tourism, it feels like Flagstaff is "for sale".
These below points will be mentioned again, as they are very critical:
2 important things that are missing from your plan:
1) The City of Flagstaff needs to demand from the Coconino National Forest to STOP all campfires in the forest completely. Campfires are a relict of the dark ages and there is no place for campfires in this climate, in this desert, in this drought, in this water shortage. Period.
2) Nowhere in your plan do you mention the mitigation of the complete waste of water from the hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of motel/hotel rooms and the new student housing - these are areas of HUGE water waste in showers / shower heads. Water should be limited to these commercial and student lodging facilities and and the very least - LOW water volume shower heads must be installed and then monitored on a regular (e.g. monthly) basis.

Two important things are missing from your plan:
1) Concerning our water resources - The City of Flagstaff needs to demand from the Coconino National Forest to STOP all campfires in the forest completely. Campfires are a relict of the dark ages and there is no place for campfires in this climate, in this desert, in this drought, in this water shortage. Period.
2) The City of Flagstaff needs to stop promoting the waste of our precious water for a Desert Ski Resort (Snowbowl). The fact that Snowbowl needs to use water to make snow is proof in itself that they have no business attempting to use water to make snow. If the City of Flagstaff fails to act to stop this water use, then your whole climate change plan is a joke, with no real intentions of addressing our climate change problem, with the real objective being making a money profit for the business entities of Flagstaff.
3) Nowhere in your plan do you mention the mitigation of the complete waste of water from the hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of motel/hotel rooms and the new student housing - these are areas of HUGE water waste in showers / shower heads. Yes

Yes

Do you have any recommendations to improve bike share in Flagstaff?
Get the bikes serviced MUCH more often, and allow people to flag them as needing service without renting them. There is one in the Rio right now but there's no obvious way to report it. Some bikes are locked to things. People should be fined for locking bikeshare bikes.

Get the word out and better inform people on how to be good stewards of the program. I didn't know this existed until I started seeing orange bikes all over the city. As others have pointed out, they need to have designated collection points that don't interfere with pedestrian traffic - I've seen them left in very random places and it doesn't feel any different than littering. I have not used the bikes myself, but it would likely make them more useful in Flagstaff if the were lighter, had more gears for hill climbs, and better tires for use on the urban trail system.

Where did you experience the new LED street lights (check all that apply)?
4th Street, Route 66

What is your impression of the brightness of light emitted from the LED fixtures?
The fixture emission appears brighter than that emitted from the LPS fixtures.

“Light trespass” is street light illumination extending beyond streets to yards, driveways, and houses. Please provide your opinion of the LED street lights relative to the LPS system currently in use.
The LED light trespass is greater than that of the LPS system.

Please comment on the appearance of the new LED light fixtures as part of the Flagstaff cityscape.
They have a less aesthetically appealing design.

Which of the following describes your general experience (ground illumination, visibility of your surroundings) walking under the new LED street lights?
The LED system has degraded my experience in the evening in lighted street areas in Flagstaff.

Which of the following describes the appearance and darkness of Flagstaff’s night sky?
Sky appearance and darkness has degraded relative to the LPS system.

Would you support removing street lights in your residential neighborhood, except at intersections, in order to save energy and improve dark skies?
Very supportive.

Would you support not installing street lights in new residential neighborhoods, except at intersections, in order to save energy and improve dark skies?
Very supportive.

Please provide any additional thoughts you have.
I encountered new lighting at 4th and 66 and along 66, mostly near intersections, for the first time this past weekend (July 7). There were on before the other lights and extremely bright, so much so that I had to mostly keep my eyes averted. I was surprised to note there was no shielding on the new lights at all. How can these be acceptable and Flagstaff still be considered a dark sky city? The lighting was extremely white/blue and harsh. Try something different. These were horrible.
