Please comment on the Cities proposal to adopt the most current versions of the International Code Council Building Codes and City amendments?
The Building Safety Division is seeking public comment on the proposed Building Codes and amendment adoption. The proposed amendments are located on the City web page and a link is provided below.
The Building Safety Division is in the process of preparing a proposal for the 2018 International Code Council family of codes for adoption in early 2019 and effective July 1, 2019. These codes include the 2018 International Building, Mechanical, Plumbing, Fuel Gas, Energy Conservation, Existing Building Codes along with the 2017 National Electric Code. Building safety codes have been regularly updated to current versions in the City since 1979. The purpose of keeping the City on current codes is multifaceted. The most important is to ensure the life safety and welfare of citizens in the built environment. Current codes integrate and adjust for current technology in the construction industry, thus keeping Avondale as a progressive forward-thinking City.
Also, Insurance Services Office Incorporated(ISO) and Verisk Analytics Incorporated rate the City on a regular basis to evaluate and set commercial and residential insurance rates for insurers. A component of the rating is that the City has adopted a code written in the past five years which requires the City evaluate current codes and bring them forward for adoption. As the codes are written for the Nation there is a need to add local amendments specific to the region. The Building Division has worked with all west valley cities to align code adoption time frames and amendments, thus attempting to assist the design and construction industry.
