Please provide any additional comments that you would like to share regarding Palm Desert City Council meetings.
I often attend CC meetings in person or online and find them informative and useful. In my opinion, the meetings are an excellent forum for eliciting public comment and other input. The 3-minute time limit encourages speakers to be focused and succinct, so many people can make their views known while making efficient use of CC members' time and the staff's time. The agendas are published far enough in advance to help me decide which meetings to attend, in person or online, and related documents are readily available from the city website.

What is your residency status in Palm Desert?
Part time resident/full time in season

Are you a golfer?
Yes

Do you golf at Desert Willow Golf Resort?
Yes

Do you take advantage of Desert Willow’s discounted resident rate?
Yes

How often?
A few times per year

Are you able to successfully book desired tee times at Desert Willow at the discounted resident rate?
No

Why not?
Tee times generally unavailable in 3 day advance period which is too short also no % of tee times are protected for residents. Other cities locally & across country provide both longer advance booking windows and 30-35% tresident tee time protection

The discounted green fee for Palm Desert residents to play Desert Willow is $50. It costs Desert Willow (the City of Palm Desert) approximately $79 to provide a round of golf at Desert Willow. How would you describe the resident rate?
Other - Resident rate is competitive & should be market based not tied to CPI, The $79 APR is too high due with an excessively high fee to Kemper, poor contract bidding & contract negotiation practices. Other co's would lower costs, increase profits & benefits

How would you describe the Desert Willow resident discount card?
Other - Both too difficult to maintain & provides far below the value other local & national courses provide to residents. A course that averages over $10 million in revenue should be substantially above break even point. Reported EBITA is false without mgmnt fee

Do you think resident discount card privileges should be extended to part-time residents?
Yes

Why or why not?
Original charter included part time residents per council memberthat time They pay their full share of taxes & so should be eligible for the benefits Again other local & national courses do not exclude them from being eligible It is a short sighted change to the policy which hurts PD realtors & housing market unnecessarily

Should resident cardholders receive discounts at Desert Willow Golf Resort on services and products other than golf?
Yes

What should be discounted (check all that apply)?
Other - Dining & shopping in pro shop for sure. Kemper will not agree to this because their unnecessary non market based revenue bonus. Kemper only has to achieve 65% of avg $10 mill revenue to get $175 mill bonus.Kemper windfall instead of resident benefits

If you visit Desert Willow Golf Resort for activities other than golf, tell us why you visit (check all that apply).
Dining, Shopping

Are you interested in Footgolf?
No

Did you know that Desert Willow offers Footgolf?
Yes

What do you like about Desert Willow that should not change?
While overstaffed due to inefficient processes, the frontline customer service employees are courteous and helpful. Courses are fun to play when you can get a tee time

What would you like to see change at Desert Willow?
The resident eligibility, access and benefits previously mentioned along with a fair open contract bidding process with a contract that does not overpay contractor for financial under performance. Surveys should be conducted by independent firms not City or Kemper in future

Not a thing. It's perfect as it is.

What would you like to see change at Desert Willow?
The golf course is perfect, staff are great!
The only thing to change is the City of Palm Desert requires us to get a resident card for everyone out of state, in order to get a Desert Willow card. Apparently other city run courses only require a copy of property taxes and a utility bill. The residents card is difficult to obtain, why do we need this extra step if we prove we are residents?

What do you like about Desert Willow that should not change?
Excellent pro shop services. Excellent outside golf bag attendant services. Very good food with beautiful ambiance. We originally rented in Desert Falls. Twelve years ago we purchased a condo there. We are short term residents and did not wish to join a country club. The palm desert resident card was very important in our decision to purchase in this community. Our family and friends have enjoyed many wonderful times at DWGR.

What would you like to see change at Desert Willow?
Is the city of Palm Desert refuting the financial data and golf play statistics, presented to you by Tom Walton and team? If this data is true, it appears that the city and all of its residents are not being properly served. I ask that the City Council insist that the DWGR provide the services, as found in the original charter.

What do you like about Desert Willow that should not change?
Desert Willow Golf is a public course, but it is prepared and managed like a private club. Golfers here are treated very well by the staff, and the facility is second to none in my opinion.
I also purchase a Platinum Card every year, as it allows me to bring a variety of visiting guests at a preferred rate, as well as giving a purchasing incentive in the restaurant and Pro Shop. The lessons within that program are also a great value.

Have lived full time in PD for over 13 years. Loved it when we moved here and still love it. We are concerned that the City is getting "old". Too much emphasis is geared toward the over 70 golfing crowd and that is not the future. Time to be progressive and think young/active. There is a reason why home values in Palm Springs are going up while here in Palm Desert they remain sluggish. And in case you are wondering my wife is over 60 and I am pushing 70.

Start offering events for non golfers. golf is a dying sport and the younger folks are not going to embrace it. How about walking night or biking night at Desert Willow. Open the clubhouse for drinks/ dinner afterwords.
