What types of topics, discussions, and/or opinions would you like to see discussed on the Open Town Hall platform?
The Town of Atherton strives to provide multiple touchpoints and opportunities to engage the community and increase civic participation. To accomplish this, we hold public meetings, host a comprehensive website with numerous transparency tools - such as OpenGov, provide an online Police Report Tool (CitizenRims), video the CIty Council and Committee meetings and post them on Youtube as well as rebroadcast them on cable television, we dissemenate information electronically on a regular basis (weekly and quarterly), we have a print newsletter mailed to every resident, we use social media, brochures and fliers, and engage with the press on a regular basis all in an attempt to keep you informed.
The City Council recently reaffirmed this position with the affirmation of one of their goals: “Strengthen community engagement and transparency through: pursuing opportunities for increased community engagement, enhancing the Town's use of transparency and communication tools, conducting an annual Town Meeting, and holding community events." With that affirmation, the Town has renewed focus on the use of Open Town Hall as one of those engagement tools. Open Town Hall is an exciting online forum designed to let people discuss important issues, answer questions, or offer opinions and suggestions on chosen topics.
The City Council and staff will read the statements posted and incorporate them into the decision-making process. It is hoped that this new tool will provide more opportunities for citizen interaction and engagement and open communication so that leaders and citizens can work together more effectively.
