What significant environmental concerns do you have regarding a specific project option? For each environmental concern, select the project options to which this concern relates.
What other significant environmental issues would you like to see addressed in the Environmental Impact Report (EIR)?
No response.
Which section would you like to skip to?
Pedestrian and bike access
Please explain the nature of your concern(s) regarding pedestrian and bike access.
No response.
Can you suggest other reasonable alternatives that would also achieve the project goals and avoid these impacts?
No response.
What mitigation measures would minimize these impacts?
No response.
Which section would you like to skip to?
Traffic volumes
Please explain the nature of your concern(s) regarding traffic volumes.
Creating more car lanes will induce demand for driving on this thoroughfare. Creating lanes for transit, walking, and cycling will induce demand for more active modes of transportation, and we should be encouraging that where it's possible in the city and the surrounding area.
Can you suggest other reasonable alternatives that would also achieve the project goals and avoid these impacts?
No response.
What mitigation measures would minimize these impacts?
No response.
Which section would you like to skip to?
Traffic-related safety concerns
Please explain the nature of your concern(s) regarding traffic-related safety.
A wide road with multiple lanes for automobile traffic will induce and encourage speeding.
Can you suggest other reasonable alternatives that would also achieve the project goals and avoid these impacts?
Plan for the number of people you want to move through the area, but plan to move those people in some way other than single-occupancy vehicles.
What mitigation measures would minimize these impacts?
No response.
Which section would you like to skip to?
Air quality impacts
Please explain the nature of your concern(s) regarding air quality impacts.
As much as tech-focused people like to clamor on-and-on about how electric cars will save the world, the fact is that even electric cars are often powered by by carbon-based fuel further up the chain (the plants that produce the electricity that they plug into may be coal-burning, for example). The production of the cars also has a significant environmental footprint. The only way to be certain that air quality and other environmental concerns are holistically addressed is to avoid single-occupancy cars as a means of transportation in a dense environment.
Can you suggest other reasonable alternatives that would also achieve the project goals and avoid these impacts?
Encourage and provide more public transit options, encourage walking, encourage cycling.
What mitigation measures would minimize these impacts?
No response.
Which section of questions would you like to skip to?
Noise impacts
Please explain the nature of your concern(s) regarding noise impacts.
Cars make more noise than people walking or cycling, even when the cars are electric.
Can you suggest other reasonable alternatives that would also achieve the project goals and avoid these impacts?
No response.
What mitigation measures would minimize these impacts?
No response.
Which section of questions would you like to skip to?
Transit ridership
Please explain the nature of your concern(s) regarding transit ridership.
Please work with large employers in the area, VTA, and Caltrain to create plans that will get people in and out of the area without needing to drive.
Can you suggest other reasonable alternatives that would also achieve the project goals and avoid these impacts?
No response.
What mitigation measures would minimize these impacts?
No response.
Did you indicate having "other" important concerns in the first question?
No
Are there any groups or agencies that you suggest we consult/contact in conjunction with the preparation of the EIR?
I would recommend consulting with the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, California Walks, VTA, Friends of Caltrain, and Caltrain.
