Small Area Plan Boundary
BACKGROUND
For the past 20 months, local stakeholders have worked with city planners to develop a plan for the 36th Street North Corridor - an area centered around 36th Street North between Martin Luther King Jr. and Lewis Avenues, as indicated on the map. Area landmarks include the OU Wayman Tisdale Specialty Health Clinic, Educare of North Tulsa, Tulsa Tech Peoria Campus, St. Simeon’s Episcopal Home, and the Neighbor for Neighbor/Northland Shopping Center.
The Corridor is a commercial strip surrounded mostly by relatively stable single family neighborhoods. This plan, which will amend the comprehensive plan when adopted, seeks to set the tone for future development, to help preserve the area’s attractive characteristics and to identify what kinds of development are most appropriate over the next 20 years. This plan also seeks to identify key investments – such as park renovations, trail improvements, economic development investments – that would help spur positive growth and bring to light the area’s many positive assets.
The planning process began in early 2012 when the City Council chose the plan area and defined its boundaries. The plan’s extensive community engagement process included regular meetings with a citizen advisory team of key stakeholders that included business interests, area advocates, and neighborhood leaders. Throughout the process, plan content was vetted with this group and with the larger pool of stakeholders.
Outcome: Approved
