Suggest a Name & Design for Mobile Hygiene Unit

Background

Homelessness is a complex societal issue created by factors including lack of affordable housing, mental illness, and substance abuse, among others. In recent years, the number of unsheltered or homeless individuals has increased not just in Fremont, but in the entire state of California.

For someone experiencing homelessness, keeping yourself and your clothes clean can be incredibly challenging, and can greatly impact your ability to get and keep a job, or simply participate in society. To meet this need, the City of Fremont, City of Newark, and several community partners are launching a new Mobile Hygiene unit to provided much-needed shower and laundry services to our homeless neighbors. The unit was purchased through a $125,000 Alameda County Homeless Immediate Impact grant.

The Mobile Hygiene unit is comprised of a 50-foot truck and trailer, fitted with two full bathrooms with showers, including one that is ADA accessible, and three washer/dryer units. The Mobile Hygiene unit will provide services in coordination with existing food and clothing programs. Each service site will be open for 3 to 4 hours and provide 10-15 minutes of shower time per client, as well as laundry services.

The Fremont Human Services Department is collaborating with Rohin Puvvada, an Eagle Scout from Troop 103 at Warm Springs in Fremont, who has set up a GoFundMe page to fundraise for hygiene kits for clients and also come up with a creative name and design which can be transferred onto our 31-foot long mobile unit. Your suggestions will help us choose the design, or combination of designs, and name that will be used for the Mobile Hygiene unit. 

The City hopes to put the Mobile Hygiene unit into service in March 2019.
