The City of Fremont currently limits the size of homes in single-family neighborhoods through a combination of setbacks, height limits, and lot coverage restrictions. The City also addresses potential compatibility concerns through the application of design rules and guidelines. Recently, concerns have been expressed that additions to existing smaller homes, in particular two-story additions, are out of scale with existing neighborhoods and may impact the privacy and solar access for existing homes. City Council has requested staff to evaluate potential additional limitations on the size and design of single-family home additions.
