In 2012, the Fremont City Council adopted the Fremont Downtown Community Plan and Design Guidelines to provide guidance on the long-term initiative of creating a vibrant downtown.
Downtown is the social heartbeat of a community where social and economic exchanges take place, celebrations are held, friends run into each other, and cultures mix. As the City of Fremont continues to develop our downtown and construction of the new Civic Center begins, more events and activities will take place in the district. The design goals for the plaza are to create a space that will accommodate a variety of events and activities for the community. Located on the southeast side of Capitol Avenue between State Street and Liberty Street, the size of the Civic Center plaza can be compared to San Francisco's Union Square. Fremont would like to know what type of programs and events residents want to see in the plaza in order to create a vibrant public space for the community to enjoy.
