The Bread Garden at 2912 Domingo is considering not renewing their lease at the end of this year unless business picks up. David Morris, who opened the The Bread Garden 35 years ago, has a wide array of delectable treats, breads and cookies. Popular favorites are the raspberry Linzer torte, chocolate truffles, lemon bars, pistachio biscotti, blueberry scones, plus a wide variety of breads including sweet rustic hand shaped baguettes, sourdough rye, 100% whole wheat and raisin pumpernickel breads. He also sells regular and decaf coffee which is organic and fair trade and this summer he is selling fresh lemonade. It is truly a remarkable list of fare with a European touch and an asset to our neighborhood. Hours are: Mon-Fri 7 AM to 7 PM, Sat. 7 AM to 6 PM, and Sun. 8 AM - 6 PM.
David has lived in the neighborhood for 35 years and you can often see him riding his bike to work. When he started The Bread Garden in the late 70's there were three bakeries within a two mile distance and today there are nine. David says his drop-off in business is probably not a result of today's recession, because he started to notice a decline a few years ago.
David says that if sales pick up for the rest of the year so that he can erase his loss for the first 6 months of this year, he WILL renew his lease. Otherwise he will HAVE TO CLOSE.
The Bread Garden is a locally owned business that delivers a quality product. It would be a shame to lose this treasure. I personally can't imagine life without morning buns.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO KEEP THE BREAD GARDEN OPEN?
Help get more customers in the door. Ask your friends and neighbors to shop there. Buy your pastry at The Bread Garden rather than at Peet's, and your bread at The Bread Garden rather than at the supermarket.
